NHL Central Scouting’s Final Rankings For North American Skaters

Here is a top 10 list of the final draft rankings from central scouting,

1. Nail Yakopov (FW) (Sarnia Sting)

2. Ryan Murray (D) (Everett Silvertips)

3. Mikhail Grigorenko (C) (Quebec Remparts)

4. Alex Galchenyuk (C) (Sarnia Sting)

5. Morgan Rielly (D) (Moose Jaw Warriors)

6. Cody Ceci (D) (Ottawa 67′s)

7. Radek Faksa (C) (Kitchener Rangers)

8. Olli Maatta (D) (London Knights)

9. Jacob Trouba (D) (U.S. Under-18 National Team Development Program)

10. Griffin Reinhart (D) (Edmonton Oil Kings)

The big change from midterm rankings is Ryan Murray jumping ahead of Mikhail Grigorenko, Yakopov was always going to be the clear cut number one in this draft, Alex Galchenyuk might have been in the three spot if he didn’t have ACL surgery that kept him out from early October until the last couple of games of this season, Galchenyuk is a very interesting option for a lot of teams based on his play last year as a rookie but is also a worry because NHL teams wanted to see him in a long playoff run to get a good look. Morgan Rielly also missed a lot of the season due to ACL surgery, but this smooth skating offensive D man is great in all areas of the ice and can make a great first pass or lead a rush up the ice. In European rankings Filip Forsberg may go at number 4 overall and and bump down Galchenyuk down a spot, the knock on Forsberg is he doesn’t play a overly physical game and is a little on the light side at 176 pounds  for a 6’1 forward. We more of a idea of where this players end up tonight when the lottery draft is held on TSN at 8:00pm ET

2012 NHL PLAYOFF POOL

Who will win the Stanley Cup? Who will be the surprise team this year? Who would be your first pick in a playoff pool? Who are your final 4 teams in this years playoffs? These questions all have to be answered while considering who you pick in your playoff pool.

I would definitally look at Malkin as a first overal pick, Malkin has been a force all year long and looks like the hands down winner for MVP, we all seen what the Penguins did last year without Crosby in the playoffs so I definitly like them to go to the final 4 this year, the Flyers have too many rookies in there lineup this year and I am not sold on Bryzgalov in net, Fluery is a Stanley cup winner and a proven playoff goalie who gets hot during the playoffs.

I would also look at going with Henrik Sedin on Vancouver as another option, the Canucks got all kinds of playoff expireance last year and will look to make a serious impact again, Kesler is another option on the Canucks, he was playing hurt throughout the whole playoffs last year and still put up good numbers.

What I also find is 3rd line players on good teams that go far win you playoff pools, if you like a team to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals you must try to pick there 3rd line players, if you remember what Dominic Moore, Rich Peverly and Sean Bergenheim did for there teams last year in the playoffs.

Another option is taking a sleeper team’s best player in the later rounds if you think they can pull off a upset, teams like the Kings, Senators, Sharks, Blackhawks and the Capitals are all capable of a upset. To win a playoff pool you need a little bit  luck  to go your way and a decent strategy, good luck to all in there drafts and in there pools.

What Do The Leafs Do Next?

Its official the Toronto Maple Leafs have finished in the botton 5 in the 2011-2012 regular season, leaf fans have the dissapointment of missing the playoffs for the 7th straight year. What is the first thig the Leafs have to fix for next season? I will give you a list of changes I think the Leafs must make for next season.

1. I think the Leafs must get tougher to play the style Carlye likes, there are a couple of free agents I like at the right price, Jordon Tootoo will be one of thos players the Leafs will be interested in.

2. The Leafs must trade some of the extra D men they have available and some young prospects for a BIG TOP 6 forward (Specifically a top line centre)

3. The Leafs must get a veteran goalie to help James Reimer in between the pipes, I still believe Reimer will be fine with some veteran help, I dont think the Leafs need to trade the future they have work so hard to improve for a goalie like Bernier who has not proven to be a number one goalie yet, the Leafs have made that mistake before with Vessa Toskola. Toronto traded a first round pick for Toskola which turned into Logan Couture.

4. DO NOT TRADE THIS YEARS FIRST ROUND PICK. (This would be the worst thing for the Leafs to do)

Brian Burke can not just blow up this team in the new cap era so he has to be smart about it and tweak the team the right way, Burke has one more year in my mind to make this team a playoff team.
